Disordered Eating
Eating Disorders arise from a combination of psychological, biological, interpersonal and social factors. Eating Disorders can affect every cell, tissue and organ in the body and can have life-threatening consequences if untreated. It also often results in an individual feeling anxious, depressed and isolated, suffering from obsessive thinking and behaving compulsively in ways they never did in the past. This can result in low self esteem, loneliness, guilt and shame. Eating Disorders are a way of coping that only creates a new set of problems. There is no single cause of an Eating Disorder so a treatment plan should be tailored to each person's unique need for psychological, medical, nutritional, spiritual and social support.
